Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is Scotland’s busiest airport, handling around 15 million passengers a year through a single terminal. The map below shows check-in, security, the departure gates and the tram stop outside. The airport sits about 8 miles west of central Edinburgh, roughly 30 minutes away by tram.

Edinburgh Airport sits about 8 miles (13 km) west of the city centre, beside the A8 and within a short drive of the M8 and M9 motorways. It is the sixth busiest airport in the United Kingdom and the busiest in Scotland.
The tram is the most popular way into the city. Edinburgh Trams run from the stop outside the terminal to Princes Street in about 30-35 minutes, with no changes needed. Regular buses connect the airport with Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, North Lanarkshire and West Lothian, and taxis from the ranks in front of the terminal reach the city centre in 15-20 minutes.

Edinburgh Airport Terminals
Edinburgh Airport has a single terminal, so there is no terminal transfer to worry about. Both domestic and international flights use the same building.
Both domestic and international arrivals are located on the ground floor. All check-in counters and the baggage claim area are also on the ground floor. Before security, there is a currency exchange office, baggage wrapping, baby care rooms, and cafes.
The first floor is used for departures. After passing through security, you will reach the departure gates via the duty-free area. The first floor has dining and shopping options such as Burger King, Wetherspoon, Starbucks, All Bar One, and The Gathering. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport. Short and long stay parking areas sit in front of the terminal. Security and passport control points can be crowded, especially during busy periods.
Edinburgh Airport Car Hire
Edinburgh Airport is a natural starting point for a Scottish road trip. The city centre is about 20 minutes away by car, Stirling Castle 45 minutes, Loch Lomond an hour and St Andrews around 90 minutes. The M8 and M9 motorways begin within a few minutes of the airport, putting most of the country within easy reach.
Car rental companies are not located inside the terminal at Edinburgh Airport. The car rental center is located in a separate building, a short walk from the terminal building. You can reach the car rental center by walking along the covered walkway next to the multi-story car park. The walking time is approximately 3 minutes.
Alamo, Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, National and Sixt operate from the car rental centre. Booking online in advance usually means a better rate and a wider choice of vehicles. A driver’s license, passport and credit card are required at pickup.
