Catania Airport is located approximately 5 km from Catania, the second largest city on the island of Sicily. Catania Airport is the busiest airport in Sicily.

This airport is very close to the city. Major airlines such as ITA Airways, Lufthansa, and KLM operate at this airport. These airlines have regular flights to many European destinations such as Rome, Munich, Amsterdam, and Berlin. Airlines such as easyJet and Ryanair are more active on flights to popular European destinations such as London and Paris. Approximately 12 million passengers use this airport each year.

Catania Airport is quite close to the city center. The journey time from the airport to the city center is approximately 15 minutes. There are also bus services from the airport to the city center. You can reach Catania city center and Catania Centrale train station with the Alibus bus. Buses run every 20-25 minutes.

There are two terminals at Catania Airport: Terminal A and Terminal C. Both terminals are quite close to each other. There are parking areas in front of the terminals.

Catania Airport Terminals

There are two main terminals at Catania Airport: Terminal A and Terminal C. These two terminals are within walking distance of each other.

Terminal A is the airport’s main terminal. The terminal has 55 check-in counters and 12 security gates. This terminal is used by major airlines such as ITA Airways, Ryanair, Lufthansa, and KLM. The arrivals area and baggage claim are located on the ground floor. The upper floor houses the departures area and security checks. The terminal has bank ATMs, a currency exchange office, duty-free shops, cafes and restaurants, and gift shops. There is also a children’s play area, a baby care room, and a business center in the terminal. This terminal is used for non-Schengen flights and international flights.

Terminal C serves only easyJet flights. The terminal has 6 check-in counters and 5 boarding gates. Terminal C is right next to Terminal A. The distance between the terminals is only a few minutes. If you are flying with easyJet, you should go directly to Terminal C.

Catania Airport Car Rental

If you want to discover Sicily’s hidden coves, the baroque towns of Val di Noto, and the vineyard houses on the slopes of Etna, you can rent a car right from Catania Airport. You definitely need a car to explore Sicily freely. You can reach Mount Etna in about 45 minutes.
Ancient Taormina and Teatro Antico are an hour’s drive away. You can reach the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Siracusa and Ortigia Island in an hour by car. In other words, there are many places you can explore with a rental car from Catania.

At the airport, there are car rental offices for Hertz, Sixt, Noleggiare, Locauto Rent-Enterprise, Holiday Car Rental, B-Rent, and AG Transfers. The car rental offices are located on the arrivals level of Terminal A, just outside the baggage claim area. To rent a car, you must have your driver’s license, credit card, and passport with you. If you are visiting Sicily between June and September, you should rent your car before your trip. Rental cars sell out quickly during this season. Also, prices are always more affordable when booking online.

Catania Airport VIP Lounge

If you want to escape the busy and sometimes exhausting atmosphere of the airport and find some peace, you can wait for your flight in the VIP Lounge area at Catania Airport. There is one VIP Lounge at Catania Airport. The Angelo D’Arrigo VIP Lounge is located on the third floor, after security. This lounge is near Gates 5-6. Those with Priority Pass and DragonPass memberships and those with business class tickets can enter the lounge free of charge. You can also access the lounge area by paying at the door. The Angelo D’Arrigo VIP Lounge is open from 06:30 to 21:00.

The Angelo D’Arrigo VIP Lounge offers an open buffet with unlimited Sicilian-style fresh snacks, sandwiches, and Italian coffee. The lounge features fast and uninterrupted Wi-Fi access, daily local and international newspapers, and work areas.

Hotels in Catania Airport

There are no hotels inside the terminal at Catania Airport. However, there are many hotels around the airport. Catania International Airport Hotel is within walking distance of the terminal. It also offers a free shuttle service for its guests. The hotel has a 24-hour reception service, so you can check in at any time. Magnolia Boutique Rooms and Fontanarossa Airport Apartment are also very close to the airport. Romano Palace Luxury Hotel is approximately 2 km from the airport. This hotel has a conference room and business center.

If you prefer to stay in the city center, you can stay at hotels such as Mercure Catania Excelsior. You can reach the airport from hotels in the city center in 15–20 minutes by Alibus. When making your reservation, don’t forget to confirm services such as 24-hour reception, early breakfast corner, and free shuttle.
