Milan-Bergamo Airport, also known as Il Caravaggio International Airport, is Italy’s third busiest international airport. Approximately 18 million passengers use this airport annually. This airport is one of Ryanair’s main hubs. There are domestic, European, and regional flights from Bergamo Airport.

Transportation to Bergamo Airport is very convenient. The journey from the city center to the airport takes only 10 minutes. The A4 motorway passes right in front of the airport. There are taxis available 24 hours a day in front of the terminal. You can reach the city center in 10-15 minutes by taxi. Bergamo train station is approximately 5 km from the airport. You can take buses from the terminal to the train station. This journey takes only 10 minutes. There is a bus service every 10-15 minutes. If you want to go to Milan, it’s even easier. Private bus companies such as Terravision, Flibco, and Autostradale operate express services to Milan. This journey takes approximately 50-60 minutes.

Bergamo Airport has a single terminal. The terminal is divided into two sections: Zone A and Zone B. Each section is used for different flights.

Milan-Bergamo Airport Terminals

There is only one terminal at Bergamo Airport. This means you don’t need to transfer between terminals at the airport. There are two sections in the terminal that serve different flights. Arrivals are handled on the ground floor of the terminal. This floor has check-in counters and airline offices. The first floor has security check areas, a duty-free area, shops, restaurants, and cafes.

The terminal is divided into two sections: Zone A and Zone B. There are two main areas: “Schengen” and “Non-Schengen.” Zone A is used for flights within Europe. There are 15 gates in this section. Before security, there is a large check-in area, shops, and cafes. After security, there are boutique shops selling perfumes, souvenirs, and local Italian products.

Zone B is used for international flights. There are 5 gates in this section. This area is smaller. Baggage claim areas are located on the ground floor of the terminal. There is a tourist office in the arrivals hall. A pharmacy, ATM, currency exchange, and lost luggage office are also in the same area.

Milan-Bergamo Airport Car Rental

If you want to explore Italy’s picture-postcard lake district and the fashion capital of Milan at your own pace, you can rent a car right away at Bergamo Airport.
You can reach Bergamo’s historic Città Alta district in just 10 minutes from the airport. The journey to Lake Como takes about 1 hour. If you want to go to Lake Garda, you can reach this peaceful area with a 1.5-hour drive. You can reach Milan in about 1 hour via the A4 motorway. The mountain roads leading to the Italian Alps offer spectacular views in spring and summer.

Car rental companies operating at Bergamo Airport include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Maggiore Rent, Locauto, Autovia, Drivalia, Goldcar, and Sicily by Car. Car rental offices are located in the arrivals area, close to the baggage carousels. You can book your car online before your trip. It is particularly difficult to find a car at the airport during the summer months. Car prices are quite expensive during the peak tourist season. I would recommend choosing a small car for Italy’s narrow streets. It is also quite difficult to find parking in the city center. When picking up your car, be sure to clarify the fuel policy and damage coverage. A driver’s license, passport, and credit card are sufficient to rent a car.

Milan-Bergamo Airport VIP Lounge

There are two VIP Lounges at Bergamo Airport. The Check-in Lounge and HelloSky Lounge are located inside the terminal.

The Check-in Lounge is located opposite the ticket counters, before security control. It is open from 4:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. You can access the lounge area by paying at the door. Here, there is a special check-in desk and fast-track for passengers and baggage. Snacks and drinks are also served. High-speed internet and work areas are designed for business travelers.

HelloSky is located in the airside area after security, near Gate B. It is open from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM. This VIP Lounge area has a meeting room, a private relaxation area, and a premium buffet service. You can start your flight off right with fresh croissants and real Italian espresso. You can also take a shower here. Diners Club and similar lounge membership programs are also valid here.

Hotels in Milan-Bergamo Airport

There are no hotels connected to the terminal at Bergamo Airport. However, there are hotels within walking distance and a short drive from the airport. NH Orio al Serio is located directly opposite the A4 motorway. In other words, it is directly opposite the terminal. After exiting the terminal, you can reach the hotel with a short walk.

Winter Garden Hotel is approximately 2 km from the airport. This hotel offers a free shuttle service. The hotel has a spa center, gym, and meeting rooms. BergHotel and 57 ResHotel Orio also offer their guests a free shuttle service. When choosing a hotel, don’t forget to check the breakfast hours and shuttle times.
