Barbados is an island that comes alive with ocean views in the morning light and slows down with rum and music as evening falls. When you first set foot on this island, it’s not the turquoise waters that greet you, but the historic charm of Bridgetown. Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison feature structures dating back to the 17th and 19th centuries. With its colonial architecture, this area sheds light on the island’s history. Bridgetown and the Historic Garrison are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. George Washington House, Garrison Savannah, and Bridgetown’s historic streets define the island’s character. In Barbados, the scent of the harbor, old stone buildings, and warm breezes come together. This place reveals the Caribbean’s most authentic side.

In the south lies Carlisle Bay. With its calm waters, diving spots, and shipwrecks on the seabed, it is one of Barbados’s most enchanting destinations. In the early morning, the coastline looks almost like a painting. By afternoon, life begins to stir in the water. On the island’s eastern coast lies Bathsheba. Here, the waves are more intense.

Barbados’ cuisine will also surprise you. Don’t leave without trying cou-cou and flying fish. These dishes are Barbados’ national dishes. Barbados cuisine stands out for its seafood, spices, and locally sourced flavors served hot. As evening falls, the beach comes alive with music, rum, and the scent of the sea all blending together.

Grantley Adams International Airport is Barbados’s only airport. It is located at the southeastern tip of the country, along the Adams-Barrow-Cummins Highway. Grantley Adams Airport has two interconnected terminals. The airport is approximately 13 km from downtown Bridgetown. After disembarking, follow the signs and proceed directly to passport control. After passing through passport control, you will arrive at the baggage claim area. Collect your luggage and exit the terminal.

As soon as you exit, turn left. The taxi and car rental area is in this direction. The offices of Courtesy Rent-A-Car, Drive-a-matic Car Rentals, and Stoute’s Car Rental are immediately to the left of the arrivals exit. Vehicle drop-off is also handled in the same area. If you’re using public transportation, you’ll need to board the bus from the main road. Exit the terminal and walk straight toward the main road. The bus stop is not right in front of the terminal but is located on the highway. Routes 12A, 12D, 19, 26, 27, 34, and 56 go toward Bridgetown. Taxi stands are located at the terminal exit.
