Tahiti Faa’a International Airport is located on the northwestern coast of the island of Tahiti. The airport is 5 km from downtown Papeete. Tahiti Faa’a Airport is the only international airport in French Polynesia. Approximately two million people use this airport each year. Flights depart from Tahiti Airport to destinations including Paris, Los Angeles, Fiji, Tokyo, Seattle, San Francisco, Auckland, Santiago, and Honolulu.

Arahoho Blowhole is located 30 kilometers east of Papeete. The columns of water shooting into the air as waves crash against the rocks showcase the island’s volcanic power. Don’t miss Teahupo’o. This legendary surf spot, which will host the surfing events of the 2024 Paris Olympics, produces some of the world’s heaviest and most spectacular coastal waves.
You can reach the city center from Tahiti Airport via the island’s colorful local buses. The bus stop is right in front of the terminal building. These local buses do not operate during the early morning or late night hours. If you arrive at the airport very early or late at night, you can take a taxi from the terminal. Taxi stands are located directly across from the terminal. They operate on a regular schedule.

There are two terminals at Tahiti Airport. The International Terminal is located inside the main building. Check-in counters are on the ground floor of the terminal. All international airlines, including Air Tahiti Nui, Air France, United Airlines, and Hawaiian Airlines, use this terminal. After completing check-in, you will go through security screening. Proceed through passport control and enter the boarding area. A currency exchange office is located in the airport lobby near the check-in area. The gate area features restaurants, cafes, and shops.
A separate terminal is used for domestic flights. In the Domestic Terminal, check-in counters are located on the left side. The Domestic Terminal features a coffee bar, fast food, a snack bar, and a business center.
McDonald’s is open from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Aviation Restaurant serves from breakfast through the late evening, operating from 5:00 AM to 10:30 PM. Kuriri Fish Restaurant is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Free Wi-Fi is available in the terminal.
Tahiti Faa’a Airport Car Rental
Car rental companies operate at Tahiti Airport. The car rental counters are located inside the terminal. The companies are situated directly across from the check-in area and near the food court. Avis, Hertz, and Tahiti Easy Car provide services within the terminal. After completing your car rental procedures inside the terminal, you can pick up your rented vehicle from the P2 parking lot. Car rental companies are open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
There are wonderful places to explore by car in Tahiti. The island’s only main road circles the entire island along an 119-kilometer route. Simply follow the coastline. After leaving the airport, head north toward Papeete. Then visit Arahoho Blowhole, Faarumai Waterfalls, Vaipahi Water Gardens, and the Teahupo’o surf spot in that order. During peak season, you should book your rental car online. During these periods, rental cars at the airport run out very quickly.

There is one VIP Lounge at Tahiti Faa’a Airport. The Air Tahiti Nui Lounge is located in the boarding area of the International Terminal. This VIP Lounge is on the first floor of the terminal. The Air Tahiti Nui Lounge is situated near the gates after passing through security and passport control. The lounge opens 3 hours before the flight time.
Inside the lounge, there is an air-conditioned relaxation area, free Wi-Fi, shower facilities, and food and beverage service. There is also a work area equipped with a TV, newspapers, magazines, a computer, and a printer. The lounge is free for Air Tahiti Nui Business Class passengers and Club Tiare Gold members. Cash and credit card payment options are also available at the entrance.

Hilton Hotel Tahiti is located in the Auae-Faa’a area just outside Papeete. This hotel is very close to the city center, the port, and Faa’a International Airport.
