Curaçao is one of the most colorful islands in the Caribbean. This island is a former part of the Netherlands Antilles. The Kura Hulanda Museum recounts the history of the slave trade brought from across the Atlantic with striking honesty. This museum is one of the island’s most important cultural landmarks.
When you’re here, be sure to try Keshî yena. This is a dish made with Edam cheese, stuffed with meat or seafood, unique to the island. Sipping a batida while sitting on the sand at Mambo Beach will give you a true sense of the island’s spirit. In the Hato Caves, Arawak rock paintings can be found among stalagmites and stalactites dating back 200,000 years. Cas Abao Beach is among the world’s most beautiful diving spots.

Hato International Airport is located approximately 12 kilometers from the capital, Willemstad. This airport is situated on Curaçao’s northern coast. The drive to the city center takes 15-20 minutes. Hato Airport is Curaçao’s main airport. Approximately two million passengers use this airport annually. Flights from Hato Airport connect to destinations in Europe, North America, South America, and the Caribbean. American Airlines, KLM, Avianca, Arajet, Divi Divi Air, and TUI Fly operate flights from this airport. Direct flights are available from Hato Airport to destinations such as Miami, New York, Toronto, Houston, Bogotá, Caracas, Lima, Aruba, Bonaire, Sint Maarten, and Port-au-Prince.
There is a ‘konvooi’ bus stop right in front of the Arrivals exit of the terminal. Bus number 4B operates to Otrobanda. Route 2A/2C operates between Hato Airport and Punda. This journey takes 40 minutes. The bus departs from in front of the terminal every two hours. Taxi stands are located right in front of the terminal.

Hato Airport Terminal
There is one terminal at Hato Airport. The terminal building is two story. The ground floor features the arrivals hall, baggage claim carousels, and customs and immigration checkpoints. The upper floor houses check-in counters, a security checkpoint, and gates.
After disembarking the plane, a corridor leads you directly to the passport control point. Once you pass through passport control, you reach the baggage claim carousels. Customs control is located beyond the baggage claim carousels. On the right side of the baggage claim carousels, there is a currency exchange office and an ATM.
When you go up to the upper floor of the terminal, you will immediately see the check-in counters.
After completing check-in and turning right, you’ll reach the security screening area. Beyond the security area, duty-free shops, souvenir stores, restaurants, and cafes are lined up. The VIP Lounge is on this floor. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.

Hato Airport Car Rental
Renting a car at Hato Airport is very easy. Car rental companies operate out of a building just outside the terminal. Exit the arrivals hall on the ground floor. After walking just 100 meters, you’ll reach the building housing the car rental companies. Once you’ve collected your luggage and cleared customs, turn right and follow the car rental signs outside the terminal. The walk takes no more than 3 minutes.
SIXT is located on the right side of the arrivals hall, right at the entrance to the car rental center. The offices of AVIS, Alamo, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, National, Thrifty, and Hertz are inside the same building. After completing your car rental procedures, you’ll pick up your vehicle from the parking lot. The vehicle pickup point is in the open parking lot a few meters beyond the counter.
The offices of Just Drive, Ross, ACE, Europcar, and Platinum are located outside the airport. These car rental companies offer an airport shuttle service. A driver’s license, passport, and credit card are required to rent a car.
Public transportation on the island of Curaçao is limited and irregular. Once you pick up your car at the airport, first drive toward Willemstad’s colorful Handelskade pier. It takes only 20 minutes to reach Butaya. You can then visit the Queen Emma Bridge and the Kura Hulanda area. For a more adventurous route, head northwest toward Playa Lagun and Playa Kenepa. You’ll reach these stunning coves in 40 minutes.
Hato Airport VIP Lounge
There is one VIP Lounge at Hato Airport. This VIP Lounge is located just past security and on the upper level of the departures area. Payment at the door is available. VISA, MASTERCARD, Priority Pass, Lounge Key, Diners Club International, and DragonPass Lounge cards are accepted. The maximum stay in the lounge is 3 hours.
