Edmonton Airport Terminals
Edmonton Airport has a single main terminal. Domestic, international, and US flights operate from this terminal. The terminal has two floors. The ground floor houses arrivals and baggage claim, while the upper floor has departures, check-in counters, and boarding gates. Check-in counters within the terminal are divided into zones. Major airlines’ counters are located in the central corridor. There are cafes, restaurants, gift shops, and stores in the post-security areas.
There are separate concourses within the terminal for Domestic, International, and US Transborder flights. Gate numbers in the terminal indicate which section you are in. For flights to the United States, the south end of the terminal building, Gates 76-88, is used. Pre-clearance is done here before going to the US. This means you won’t have to wait in line again when you arrive in the US.
Edmonton Airport has facilities to meet all your needs. There are many dining options within the terminal, from Tim Hortons to Belgian Beer Café, Bistro on the Go, and international restaurants. Family rooms, baby care rooms, and children’s play areas are available in the terminal. There are currency exchange offices and ATMs inside the terminal.
Find transportation from the airport – bus, taxi
Transportation from the airport to the city is quite easy. The Edmonton Transit System’s 747 express bus line runs from the airport to the Century Park Transit Centre. This bus operates daily from 4:10 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. During peak hours at the airport, buses run every half hour. During times of low passenger traffic, buses run once an hour. The bus departs from Door 8 in the terminal. The bus ride takes 30-35 minutes.
There are also taxi stands at the terminal exit. Taxis operate 24 hours a day. If you are at the airport outside of bus hours, you can take a taxi to the city center. There is a parking area in front of the terminal. Inside the terminal, there are car rental companies, free Wi-Fi, restaurants, cafes, and shops.
Edmonton Airport Car Rental
By renting a car from Edmonton Airport, you can explore Jasper, Banff, and the Rocky Mountains in particular. Car rental offices at Edmonton Airport are located on the ground floor of the parking garage, just outside Door 8. Car rental companies are located directly opposite the terminal building. After exiting the baggage carousel, follow the “Car Rentals” signs. You can reach the car rental offices on foot in 2-3 minutes. A credit card, driver’s license, and passport are sufficient when picking up the vehicle.
The airport has offices of major rental companies such as Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz, Alamo, National, Thrifty, Dollar, and Sixt. All of these companies operate in the same location. The offices offer a wide range of vehicles, from economy cars to SUVs and minivans.
My most important advice is that if you are traveling during the summer or holiday season, you should make your reservation online weeks in advance. Demand for rental cars is very high during these periods. After picking up your rental car, you can drive to Elk Island National Park, just 45 minutes from Edmonton, to see the bison. There are many natural beauties to discover here. The main roads to the nature areas around Edmonton, Jasper, or Calgary are well-maintained. You can explore Northern Alberta for a day trip with your car.
Edmonton Airport VIP Lounge
If you have a long flight or a long layover between connecting flights, you can wait in the VIP Lounge area. There are several VIP Lounges at Edmonton Airport.
The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge is located near Gate 54. If you have a flight with Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, or Air Canada Express, you can use this lounge area. The Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge is open from 4:30 a.m. to 11:15 p.m. It offers complimentary food and beverage service, WiFi, and work desks.
Plaza Premium Lounge: Located near Gate 52, right next to the Air Canada Lounge. It is open from 4:30 AM to midnight. American Express Platinum cardholders, Priority Pass, DragonPass, and LoungeKey members can use this VIP lounge area. You can also enter by paying at the door. Hot and cold meals, drinks, WiFi, TV screens, and charging stations are available. This lounge is open to passengers with international flights.
The Plaza Premium Lounge is located at the southernmost end of the terminal building, near Gate 88. Only passengers with flights to the USA can access this lounge area. It is open from 5:00 AM to 4:30 PM. It has a capacity of 75 people.
Hotels in Edmonton International Airport
There is no hotel connected to the terminals inside Edmonton Airport. However, there are many hotels close to the airport. Airways Country Inn, Comfort Inn and Suites, Crystal Star Inn, Days Inn, Denham Inn & Suites – Best Western, Edmonton International Travelodge, Executive Royal Inn, and Fairfield by Marriott Edmonton International Airport are all located very close to the airport. Most of these hotels offer an airport shuttle service.
Fairfield by Marriott Edmonton International Airport: This hotel is only about 3 km from the airport. It has a free airport shuttle service. The shuttle operates 24 hours a day, every day. The price includes a free breakfast buffet.
Days Inn: This hotel is 3 km from Edmonton Airport. The hotel has an indoor pool, fitness center, and free shuttle.
Quality Inn & Suites Edmonton International Airport: This hotel is approximately 3.5 km from the airport. The hotel has a fitness center, restaurant, and bar.
Super 8 by Wyndham Edmonton International Airport: This may be the most budget-friendly hotel. It is approximately 4 km from the airport.
