Rome Airport is located southwest of Rome. The airport is approximately 32 km from the city center. There are many transportation options from the airport to the city center. The Leonardo Express departs from the station right in front of Terminal 3. You can reach Rome’s central train station in about 32 minutes. If your hotel is in the Trastevere, Ostiense, or Tiburtina areas, you can travel by FL1 Train.

There are taxi and bus stops in front of all terminals. You can reach the city center in 35-45 minutes by taxi. The bus journey takes longer. The journey time is between 45 and 75 minutes.

Rome-Fiumicino Airport Terminals

There are two terminals at Rome-Fiumicino Airport: Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.

Rome-Fiumicino Airport Terminal 1

Terminal 1 is the main hub for ITA Airways. This terminal is generally used for domestic and Schengen zone flights. Gates are numbered from A1 to A83. There are 94 check-in counters in the terminal. This is the largest terminal at the airport. Terminal 3 is used for domestic, Schengen, and international flights. Major airlines such as Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, Emirates, American Airlines, and British Airways use T3. Gates are numbered from E1 to E61. There are 231 check-in points in Terminal 3. The “Area E” inside T3 is like an open-air shopping street. There are stores of famous Italian brands inside the terminal. You can find Gucci, Prada, Valentino, and other brands here. If you want to shop tax-free, this is a paradise for you. There are restaurants, cafes, and shops inside the terminal.

Free shuttle buses operate 24 hours a day between the terminals.

Rome-Fiumicino Airport Car Rental

There are car rental company offices at Rome-Fiumicino Airport. At Fiumicino Airport, the car rental company offices are located just outside the terminals, in the area called “Torre Uffici 2.” You can easily reach this area from the terminals via covered, escalator-equipped tunnels. Upon arrival at the airport, you may not find the car you want at the car rental companies. Therefore, you must make your online car reservation weeks before your trip. To rent a car, you only need your passport, driver’s license, and credit card.

Rome-Fiumicino Airport VIP Lounge

There are multiple VIP Lounges at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 at Rome-Fiumicino Airport. The Primeclass Lounge is located near Gate A61-A83. This VIP Lounge is open from 05:30 to 22:00.
