Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (IATA: HNL), also known as Honolulu Airport.

This airport is a huge and busy airport serving Honolulu, the capital of the US state of Hawaii, and the entire island of Oahu. Named after the distinguished senator from Hawaii, Daniel K. Inouye, this facility is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. HNL is approximately 6 miles (10 km) northwest of Honolulu city center. The airport is approximately 9 miles (14 km) from the world-famous Waikiki Beach. As the main gateway to Oʻahu Island, the airport serves more than 21 million passengers. HNL is the primary international and domestic gateway to the Hawaiian Islands.

There are three terminals at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. These terminals serve both domestic (inter-island and mainland US) and international flights.

Terminal 1 (formerly Interisland Terminal): This modern and spacious terminal primarily serves Hawaiian Airlines’ inter-island flights and some mainland flights. Its design, which incorporates open-air breezes, spacious waiting areas, and dining options offering local flavors, reflects the spirit of Hawaii. Gates A1-A20 and B1-B5 are located in this terminal.

Terminal 2 (formerly Overseas Terminal): This is the airport’s largest terminal. Most international flights depart from this terminal. This terminal also serves other US mainland carriers. There is a large duty-free area, various restaurants, and airline lounges. Gates C1-C9, D1-D2, E1-E10, F1-F2, and G1-G10 are located in this terminal.

Terminal 3 (formerly Commuter Terminal): This terminal is smaller than the other terminals. It serves regional and propeller-driven aircraft such as Mokulele Airlines. It has a more relaxed atmosphere. Gates H1-H10 are located in this terminal.

Free buses called Wiki Wiki Shuttle run regularly to allow passengers to move comfortably between terminals. In addition, there are walkways and corridors between some parts of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. All terminals have check-in counters, baggage claim carousels, TSA security checkpoints, ground transportation connections, a wide variety of dining options, and various shops. Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the airport.

Parking Areas

Each terminal at Daniel K. Inouye Airport has its own parking garage.

International Parking Garage: This parking area is located directly across from the International Arrivals Building. It has 8 floors. Access to the terminal is available from the ground floor of the parking garage. The 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th floors of this parking area have designated parking spaces for electric vehicles. These spaces are marked with floor markings and signs.

Terminal 2 Parking Garage: This parking area is located directly opposite Terminal 2. It has 5 floors. Access to the terminal is available from the fourth floor of the parking garage.

Terminal 1 Parking Garage: This parking garage is located right next to Terminal 1. It has 7 floors.

Cell Phone Waiting Lot: Drivers who wish to wait for passengers arriving at the airport without exiting their vehicles can do so in these waiting areas free of charge. You can use this area free of charge for a maximum of 60 minutes.

Parking fees are the same in all parking areas. Fees: $3 per hour, $27 per day. All parking lots have a 30-day parking limit. All parking areas have parking spaces reserved for disabled individuals near the terminal entrances. Payments can be made by credit card or cash.

Car Rental at the airport

Renting a car at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is the right choice for exploring Oahu Island at your own pace. Car rental company counters are located on the ground floor of Terminal 2, across from the baggage claim area. There are ten car rental companies in the five-story Consolidated Rent-A-Car (CONRAC) building. The car rental building houses offices for Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, Enterprise, National, Sixt, Payless, and Thirfty. After collecting your luggage, you can quickly reach this building by following the signs to the car rental offices. You can pick up your rental car from the parking lot of this building. The offices are open from 4:00 a.m. to midnight.

Find transportation from the airport – TheBus, Skyline, Taxis

Bus (TheBus): TheBus, Oahu’s public transportation system, stops at the airport. TheBus routes 20 and 303 depart from the arrival level and take passengers to Waikiki, Ala Moana, Aloha Stadium, and Hickam AFB. Buses depart from the airport every half hour.

Skyline (HART Rail System): Honolulu’s new rail system, Skyline, has a station serving the airport complex. You can reach this station on foot or by shuttle from Terminals 1 and 2.

Shuttle Services: Several private shuttle companies, such as Roberts Hawaii and SpeediShuttle, offer shared or private transfer services to hotels in Waikiki, cruise ship terminals, and other parts of the island.

Taxis: Licensed taxis are available 24/7 at designated areas outside the arrivals level of each terminal.
Shared Rides (Uber/Lyft): There are pickup points for Uber and Lyft at the terminals.

VIP Lounge at Honolulu International Airport

There are several lounge areas at Daniel K. Inouye Airport.

Terminal 1 Lounge:
1. Hawaiian Airlines Premier Club: Located on the second floor, this lounge is designed for Hawaiian Airlines loyalty program members and select First Class passengers. It offers comfortable seating and basic refreshments for a short rest.

2. The Plumeria Lounge: Located on the third floor, this lounge serves Business Class passengers and Pualani Platinum members. It offers hot meals, beverages, and high-speed Wi-Fi.

Terminal 2 Lounge:
3. United Club (Above Gate G3): A Star Alliance member lounge, this lounge serves passengers of United Airlines and its partner airlines.

4. Delta Sky Club (Gate F1 Opposite): Designed for Delta Air Lines passengers, this lounge area offers premium food and a full-service bar.

5. American Airlines Admirals Club: Located on the third floor, this lounge is open to American Airlines First and Business Class passengers.

6. ANA Suite Lounge / ANA Lounge (Gate C4 Upper Level): Serving All Nippon Airways’ premium passengers, this lounge has an atmosphere that reflects Japanese hospitality.

7. Sakura Lounge & Sakura Lounge Hale (JAL),: Operated by Japan Airlines (JAL), these lounges are decorated in a modern Japanese aesthetic.

8. KAL Lounge (Korean Air): Located in the Garden Court area, this lounge serves Korean Air’s First and Prestige Class passengers.

9. Qantas Business Lounge: Located near Gate E1, this lounge is designed for Qantas’ premium passengers.

10. Four Seasons Resort Lana’i Guest Lounge: Located near Gate D1, this exclusive lounge is reserved for guests of the Four Seasons Resort Lana’i.

11. Ko Olina Lounge: Located in the Garden Court area, this lounge serves guests of hotels in the Ko Olina area.

12. IASS Hawaii Lounge: Located in the Garden Court area, this lounge is open to Priority Pass holders.

13. LeaLea Lounge (H.I.S.): Located in the Garden Court area, this lounge serves Zipair Tokyo passengers.

14. USO Lounge: Located between Baggage Claim 19 and 20 on the ground floor, this lounge provides free services to active military personnel and their families.

Lost & Found

If you lose an item in the terminal buildings, security checkpoints, parking lots, or general airport areas such as the Wiki Wiki Shuttle, you should contact the HNL Lost and Found Office. The office is located on the ground floor of Terminal 2. You can get more detailed information by filling out the online form or calling (808) 836-6643.

Restaurants at Honolulu International Airport

Daniel K. Inouye Airport offers a wide variety of dining options to suit every taste and budget.

Terminal 1: Starbucks, Stinger Ray’s Tropical Bar & Grill, Makai Plantation, Lahaina Chicken Company.
Terminal 2: Burger King, California Pizza Kitchen, Starbucks, Kona Brewing Co., The Local @ HNL, Lahaina Chicken Company, Chowmein Express. There are also a variety of bars, cafes, and quick-bite eateries.
Terminal 3: Small cafes and vending machines are available.

There are numerous restaurants, cafes, bars, and grab-and-go food outlets in both the pre-security and post-security areas of the terminals.

Shopping at Airport

There are many shops at the airport where you can meet your travel needs, purchase Hawaii-themed souvenirs, or shop for luxury brands.

Hudson News/Booksellers (Multiple Locations): Books, magazines, newspapers, snacks, beverages, and travel supplies.

Hawaii-themed stores: At stores such as Hilo Hattie, Martin & MacArthur, and Na Mea Hawaii, you can find aloha shirts, dresses, ukuleles, local artwork, and souvenirs.

Fashion and Accessory Stores: In addition to international brands such as Coach, Kate Spade, and Sunglass Hut, there are also boutiques selling products from local designers.

Electronics Stores: Headphones, chargers, and other travel electronics are available at places such as InMotion Entertainment.

Shops are generally concentrated in the post-security (airside) areas of the terminals. Most shops are located in Terminal 2.

Duty Free

Daniel K. Inouye Airport, especially in Terminal 2, which is busy with international flights, has a large and comprehensive Duty Free Galleria operated by the DFS Group. International travelers can purchase alcohol, tobacco products, perfumes, cosmetics, luxury fashion items, watches, jewelry, and special items unique to Hawaii at duty-free or discounted prices at these stores. The stores are generally open according to international flight schedules.

ATM

There are ATMs in many locations throughout the terminal. ATMs are located in Terminals 1 & 2 on the check-in and baggage claim levels, and in the arrivals area of Terminal 3. There are numerous ATMs belonging to Bank of Hawaii and other banks in these areas. These ATMs are generally available 24/7.

Hotels at Honolulu International Airport

There are many hotels located very close to the airport.
Airport Honolulu Hotel: Located 0.6 miles from the airport. Free shuttle service is available.

Pacific Marina Inn Airport Hotel: Located 1.2 miles from the airport. Free shuttle service is available. Rooms with kitchens are available.

Best Western The Plaza Hotel: Located 0.7 miles from the airport. Provides free airport service to its guests.
Sheraton Princess Kaiulani: Located 6 miles from the airport. It is a short distance from the beaches.
Ala Moana Hotel: Located 8 miles from the airport. Close to shopping centers.

Waikiki Area Hotels: Many travelers prefer hotels in the world-famous Waikiki area. These hotels can be reached quickly from the airport by shuttle, taxi, or TheBus.

When making your hotel reservation, be sure to confirm whether airport shuttle service is available and the shuttle schedule.

Honolulu International Airport Flights and Airlines

Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is the main hub for Hawaiian Airlines. This airport is a vital connection point for inter-island flights. In addition, major US carriers such as Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines operate frequent flights to HNL.

Internationally, HNL hosts many major airlines from Asia, Oceania, and Canada. These include Japan Airlines (JAL), All Nippon Airways (ANA), Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Qantas, Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways, Air Canada, and WestJet.

Direct flights are available from the airport to many major cities in the United States (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, New York, etc.), important centers in Canada (Vancouver, Toronto), Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya), South Korea (Seoul), Australia (Sydney, Melbourne), New Zealand (Auckland), Fiji, and other Pacific islands. Inter-island flights operate regularly to Hawaiian islands such as Maui, Kauai, the Big Island (Hilo and Kona), and Molokai.
