Fairbanks International Airport (FAI) is located in the interior of Alaska, approximately 3 miles southwest of the city of Fairbanks. FAI covers an area of 3,470 acres. With its four runways, it can serve various types of aircraft. In particular, the main runway, which is 3,597 meters long, allows large-bodied aircraft to land and take off.

The terminal building features eight gates, serving six major carriers and two regional carriers. Major airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines operate at the airport, along with regional carriers like Wright Air Service and Warbelow’s Air Ventures. Direct flights are available from Fairbanks Airport to major U.S. cities such as Seattle, Anchorage, Chicago, and Minneapolis. It is also an important hub for freight and cargo transportation to Alaska’s interior regions. The terminal features artwork and exhibits reflecting Alaska’s natural life.

Fairbanks Airport has short-term and long-term parking areas in front of the terminal building. The first 30 minutes of short-term parking are free. From 31 minutes onwards, the hourly rate is $3, with a maximum daily charge of $22. The first 30 minutes of long-term parking are also free. The hourly rate is $2, with a maximum daily rate of $17. Both parking areas include disabled parking spaces and charging stations for electric vehicles. In addition to these parking areas, there are two open parking lots, Lot-1 and Lot-2, located on the East Ramp of University Avenue South. A daily flat rate applies here. The daily flat rate is $5. All parking lots are operated on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not accepted for parking spaces.
Car Rental at the airport
Car rental offices at Fairbanks Airport are located on the ground floor of the terminal building, directly opposite the baggage claim carousels. The Enterprise counter handles key delivery and contract processing here. The counters of major car rental companies such as Avis, Budget, Alamo, and National are also located next to each other in the terminal. Customers can pick up their vehicles from the fleet parking area outside after completing their transactions. The offices are open 7 days a week, usually from 4:30 a.m. to late at night. Companies such as Alamo and National accept vehicles outside of business hours through special “after-hours” key drop boxes located outside the terminal. To ensure safe driving in Fairbanks’ harsh winter conditions, most vehicle models are equipped with winter tires and four-wheel drive (4×4). The car rental parking lot is approximately 50 meters from the terminal exit. Passengers can use luggage carts to transport their belongings directly to their rental vehicles.
Find transportation from the airport – bus, taxi rental cars
Bus: Bus stops are located outside the airport terminal. MACS Transit’s Yellow Line buses run regularly to and from downtown Fairbanks and surrounding areas. This yellow line departs from the stop just outside the terminal building and runs every 60-114 minutes on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no bus service on Sundays. The route stops at the following main stops in order: Airport (Terminal), Fred Meyer West, UAF Wood Center, and University West. The fare is $1.50 one way. Taxi: In addition, taxis, shared services, and VIP transfer companies operate in front of the terminal building. Several local companies Alaska Cab, Airport Express Taxi, Arctic Taxi, Badger Cab, King Cab, Moose Cab, and Pioneer Taxi-operate at the airport 24 hours a day, seven days a week, usually based on flight schedules. Passengers can go directly to the taxi stand to board a vehicle or call the taxi companies’ headquarters in advance to make a reservation. Arctic Taxi’s fleet consists of models that are particularly suitable for winter conditions. You can also request a taxi using the call devices inside the terminal.
In addition, apps such as Uber also operate at the airport. You can wait for your vehicle next to the taxi stand.
VIP Lounge at Fairbanks Airport
On the east side of the airport, near the base of the control tower, there is a lounge area open to passengers. The Pilots Lounge has restrooms, showers, and a TV/DVD for watching FAA safety videos. The lounge is designed for the comfort of general aviation pilots and passengers. Free WiFi is available.
The YMCA Military Courtesy Lounge, open to military personnel and their families, is located near the baggage carousels. This area is for the exclusive use of military personnel and their families. It is open 24/7. The lounges are equipped with comfortable seating, light snacks, and beverage service in the pre- and post-security areas.
Lost & Found
The airport’s Lost & Found Department is located on the first floor of the terminal building, across from the Alaska 4×4 car rental office. This office is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Passengers wishing to report lost items can fill out an online form or contact us directly by phone (907-474-2501) or email (fai.lost-found@alaska.gov). In case of emergency, you can call the main line (907-474-2530), which is also available outside of business hours through the Communications Center.

There are ATMs belonging to various banks in the terminal building, both before and after security. These ATMs are available 24/7.
Smoking Areas
Smoking is prohibited inside the terminal building. Passengers who wish to smoke should use the designated outdoor areas opposite the terminal.
Restaurants at Fairbanks International Airport
The Local @ FAI, located on the upper level in the post-security area, is open from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. This restaurant serves breakfast omelets, flatbread pizzas, brisket pretzels, and local beer.
North Pole Coffee is located on the first floor in the pre-security area. It serves freshly roasted coffee, hot chocolate, and snacks from 4:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Both establishments offer mobile ordering and contactless payment options.
The terminal also has vending machines that serve hot and cold drinks 24 hours a day.
Shopping at Airport
On the second floor after security, the TWIGS Alaskan Gifts store sells handmade jewelry, books, and Alaska-themed souvenirs. On the first floor, in the pre-security area, the newsstand & snacks store sells magazines, newspapers, snacks, and basic travel items. Both stores are open from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
There are four ATMs located in the pre- and post-security areas of the terminal. There are no duty-free shops at the airport. However, Alaskan brand ice cream and chocolates are sold at kiosks.
Hotels at Fairbanks Airport
The Regency Fairbanks Hotel, located 7 miles (11 km) from the airport, offers guests a free 24-hour airport shuttle service. A complimentary continental breakfast is included in the daily rate. Additionally, Tubby’s Alaskan BBQ Restaurant & Bar is available on site.
Extended Stay Deluxe Fairbanks, located on Old Airport Road, is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the airport. You can reach this hotel in 5 minutes by car. This hotel is ideal for long stays with its suites with separate kitchens.
Best Western Chena River Lodge is 2 miles (3.2 km) from the airport. A free airport shuttle is available. A complimentary hot buffet breakfast is served each morning at the hotel.
