Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (IATA: STS) is located approximately 7 miles (11 km) northwest of Santa Rosa, California. This airport is located in the heart of the famous Sonoma Wine Region.

It is named after Charles M. Schulz, the beloved creator of the “Peanuts” comic strip, who lived in Santa Rosa for many years. The airport is operated by Sonoma County. It has a single terminal and two runways. It is an important transportation hub, particularly for wine tourism and business travel.

The Charles M. Schulz Sonoma Airport has a single terminal building. The terminal building was renovated in 2023.
There are a total of 6 boarding gates (Gates 1-6) in the terminal. Thanks to the compact design of the building, check-in, security checks, and access to the boarding gates are quick and easy. The terminal offers free Wi-Fi, flight information screens, cute statues of Peanuts characters, and exhibitions showcasing local art.
The ground floor of the terminal is the Arrivals floor. Here you will find the baggage claim area, car rental counters, and ground transportation options.
The first floor of the terminal is the Departures floor. Here you will find check-in counters, security checkpoints, and waiting lounges leading to the boarding gates. There are food and beverage areas and shops in the post-security area.
Parking Areas
The airport parking areas are within walking distance of the terminal building.
Short-Term Parking: Located directly in front of the terminal building. The first 15 minutes are free. After that, hourly rates apply. The hourly rate is $2, and the maximum daily rate is approximately $18.
Long-Term Parking: Located immediately behind the short-term parking lot. The first two hours are free. Fee: $13 per day.
Valet Service: If you wish, you can leave your car with a valet in front of the airport. Fee: $20 per day. Reservations are required to use the valet service.
All parking areas have disabled parking spaces. These spaces are located closest to the terminal entrance. You can pay by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, Discover). There are also short-term drop-off and pick-up areas in front of the terminal.
Car Rental at the airport
The counters of major car rental companies such as Avis, Budget, Enterprise, and Hertz are located inside the terminal building, opposite the baggage claim area. After completing your car rental, you can pick up your vehicle from the private parking area within walking distance of the terminal. The number of vehicles is limited, so don’t forget to make a reservation in advance. The offices are generally open during all flight hours.

Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit: Located 1.5 miles from the terminal. You can easily reach the station with the free SMART Connect micro-service departing from the front of the terminal. SMART Connect Micro-Service operates weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Sonoma–Larkspur line runs approximately 16 times per day.
Sonoma County Transit: Route 62 operates from 7:00 AM to 6:45 PM, with trips approximately every two hours. The final stop is Santa Rosa Transit Mall.
Mendocino Transit Authority: Routes 65 & 95 transport passengers from Santa Rosa to Sonoma. Weekdays and Saturdays from 11:50 AM to 4:20 PM, and Sundays at 2:00 PM from the airport station.
Taxi and Rideshare: The taxi stand located at the Arrivals exit is open 24/7. Taxi fares are calculated based on regional rates. Shared ride services such as Uber and Lyft also pick up passengers from designated areas.

If you lose your belongings in the terminal building or general areas such as the parking lot, you should contact the airport’s Lost & Found Office. The office is located on the ground floor of the terminal. The office is open Tuesday–Thursday–Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

In accordance with California law, smoking is strictly prohibited inside the terminal building. Smoking is only permitted outside the terminal building in designated areas.

Sky Lounge Steakhouse & Sushi Bar (Post-Security): Located near Gate 2. It has an extensive menu. Serves local wines, cocktails, steak, and sushi.
Costeaux On The Go (Pre- and Post-Security): This is the airport branch of the famous local bakery Costeaux French Bakery. Offers coffee, fresh sandwiches, salads, pastries, and snacks.
There are also vending machines inside the terminal.
