Chicago Midway International Airport (IATA: MDW) is located in the heart of Illinois, approximately 10 miles (16 km) southwest of downtown Chicago.
This airport is Chicago’s second largest airport. Midway Airport plays a key role for domestic flights and low-cost carriers. MDW serves over 20 million passengers annually. It is particularly popular for domestic flights. It is a gateway to Chicago’s world-famous architecture, jazz music, and unique cuisine.

Chicago Midway International Airport – terminal and gate map
Chicago Midway Airport has one terminal building. There are three concourses (A, B, and C) connected to this terminal building. The airport has a compact design. Passengers can walk between the concourses.
Concourse A: Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and some other airlines operate here. There are food and beverage outlets and shops.
Concourse B: This is the largest and busiest concourse at the airport. It is primarily used by Southwest Airlines. There are numerous gates, restaurants, cafes, and shops in this area.
Concourse C: This concourse is generally used for smaller regional flights and some charter flights. Services are limited.
Check-in counters, a central security checkpoint (including TSA PreCheck), baggage claim areas, various dining options, and shops are available throughout the terminal. Free Wi-Fi internet access is available throughout the airport for passengers. Direct pedestrian walkways and bridges connect the terminal building to the CTA Orange Line train station and parking lots.
Arrivals: Arrivals passenger services are located on the terminal entrance level.
Departures: The first floor of the terminal is dedicated to departures passenger services.
Parking Areas
Chicago Midway Airport has multiple parking areas where passengers can park their vehicles.
Terminal Garage (Hourly & Daily): This is the closest parking area to the main terminal building. It is a multi-story indoor parking garage. It is suitable for both hourly (short-term) and daily (long-term) parking. The hourly parking area is on the 1st floor. Fee: $4 per hour, maximum daily fee $43.
Economy Garages (Red & Yellow): This parking area is located a short distance from the terminal building. This enclosed parking area offers more affordable rates. Regular free shuttle buses operate from these areas to the terminal. Fee: $4 per hour, $15 per day.
Economy Lot (Surface): This open parking lot is located just east of the Economy Garage at 5050 West 55th Street. Regular free shuttle services run from the terminal to the parking lot. Fee: $4 per hour, $15 per day.
Valet Parking: Valet parking service is available on the Departure level of the terminal building. You can drop off your vehicle at designated areas. Fee: $69.
Cell Phone Waiting Lot: You can wait for passengers arriving at the airport without leaving your vehicle at designated locations. The waiting areas are a short drive from the terminal. The waiting time is limited to 90 minutes.
Electric vehicle charging stations are available in certain parking areas. All parking lots have special parking spaces for disabled individuals located near the terminal entrances. You can park your vehicle for up to 30 days in all parking areas. Payments can be made in cash, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and Carte Blanche.
Car Rental at the airport
Car rental companies are located outside the terminal at Midway Airport. The companies operate from the Midway’s Rental Car Facility building. Address: 5150 W. 55th Street. You can reach this facility in a few minutes by taking the free shuttle buses that depart from the baggage claim area on the arrivals level. The shuttle runs every 15 minutes. The shuttle service is available 24 hours a day. Counter and parking lots of leading national and international car rental companies such as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, and Thrifty are located in this modern facility. Most companies’ offices are open 24 hours a day. You can pick up your rental car from the parking lot within this facility.
Find transportation from the airport – Train, CTA buses ,shuttles
CTA Orange Line (‘L’ Train): This is the most popular and economical transportation option for Midway Airport. Orange Line trains depart from the Midway Transportation Center, located at the east end of the terminal building, and take passengers directly to downtown Chicago. You can also reach important transfer stations such as Clark/Lake and State/Lake by train. The journey takes approximately 25-30 minutes.
CTA Buses: CTA bus routes departing from Midway Transportation Center provide transportation to various neighborhoods and nearby suburbs of Chicago. Ticket price: $2.25.
Pace Buses: Some Pace bus routes serving Chicago’s suburbs also stop at Midway Airport. Ticket price: $1.75
You can easily find bus stops with the help of directional signs.
Regional Shuttle Services: Various private shuttle companies offer shared or private transfer services to Chicago city center, O’Hare Airport, surrounding states, and hotels.
Taxi: Taxi stands are located at the arrivals exit of the terminal. Taxis are available 24/7.
Shared Rides (Uber/Lyft): For app-based ride services such as Uber and Lyft, there are specially marked “Rideshare Pickup Zones” on the arrivals level (Lower Level) near the baggage claim doors.
VIP Lounge at Chicago Midway International Airport
There are two lounge areas at Chicago Midway Airport.
USO Lounge (Concourse C): This lounge serves active-duty US military personnel and their families. It offers free snacks, beverages, Wi-Fi, and a relaxation area.
The Club MDW (Concourse A): Passengers with various lounge access programs, such as Priority Pass and LoungeKey, as well as all airline passengers who pay a daily pass fee, can use this area. It offers comfortable seating areas, free Wi-Fi, food and beverage service, and charging stations. It is open from 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Lost & Found
If you have lost an item in the terminal building, security checkpoints, parking lots, or general areas of the airport, you should contact the Midway Airport Lost and Found Office. The airport’s lost and found office is located near the main section of the baggage claim area. The office is open every day from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Concourse A: Arami (Sushi), Billy Goat Tavern (Iconic Chicago burger joint), Nuts on Clark (Chicago classic popcorn), Starbucks.
Concourse B: Big Bowl (Asian cuisine), DeColores (Mexican), Harry Caray’s Shortstop (Sports bar and American cuisine), Garrett Popcorn Shops (Famous Chicago popcorn), Potbelly Sandwich Shop, Starbucks.
