Graz Airport is located in the state of Styria, Austria. The airport is approximately 10 km from downtown Graz. Graz Airport serves as the gateway to southern Austria. You can easily reach the airport by car via the Kalsdorf exit on the A9 highway or the Flughafen Graz exit on the A2 highway. The airport is situated along the A9 highway, which runs from north to south. This route also connects you to the Italian border and Klagenfurt.
Graz is Austria’s second-largest city. Here, narrow medieval streets stand side by side with revolutionary modern architecture. You might feel a bit out of place as you transition between these two contrasting worlds. The historic Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is situated right on the banks of the Mur River.
Schlossberg Hill, right in the heart of the city, is the very heart of Graz. Kunsthaus Graz is a striking contemporary art museum. Directly across from this museum are Baroque buildings. Eggenberg Palace is located slightly outside the city center. This palace is one of the most magnificent examples of Baroque architecture in Austria. The Styria Armory houses the world’s largest collection of historical weapons. This museum contains over 32,000 weapons.
Graz Airport is Austria’s third-busiest airport. Approximately one million passengers use this airport each year. From Graz Airport, there are regular flights to many major European cities, including Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Zurich, Istanbul, and Vienna.
You can quickly reach the city center by train from the airport. Graz-Feldkirchen Train Station is located 420 meters from Graz Airport. From here, you can take the S5 line to reach Graz Hauptbahnhof in about 20 minutes. Trains operate from early morning until late at night. There are bus and taxi stops in front of the terminal. The regional route No. 630, which departs from in front of the terminal, runs to the city center of Graz.

Graz Airport Terminal
Graz Airport has one terminal. On the ground floor of the terminal, you’ll find the arrivals hall, passport control, and baggage claim. After exiting the baggage carousel, you’ll reach the customs gates. In the area beyond customs, there are car rental counters. The arrivals hall also features a tourist information desk and an ATM.
Check-in counters are located on the first floor of the terminal. Security and passport control points are situated immediately behind the check-in area. In the airside section beyond security, there are duty-free shops, cafes, and restaurants. After passing through security, turn right to find the VIP Lounge.
The terminal building features play areas for children. There is also a conference center at the airport.
Graz Airport Car Rental
If you want to freely explore Styria’s vast countryside and its historic sites, you can rent a car at Graz Airport. Renting a car at Graz Airport is very easy. The car rental counters are located right inside the arrivals hall. The companies’ offices are located in front of the baggage claim carousel. You can start the car rental process immediately after collecting your luggage.
The offices of Sixt, Hertz, Europcar, Avis, Budget, Alamo, Enterprise, and National are inside the terminal. If you prefer, you can rent your car online before your trip. This way, you’ll get a better rate. There is a 30% price difference between online car reservations and last-minute car reservations. Have your driver’s license, passport, and credit card ready when picking up the car. If you’re visiting during the winter months, you must request a vehicle equipped with winter tires. In Austria, winter tires are mandatory on icy and snowy roads during the winter.
There are plenty of places to explore around Graz by car. You can reach Eggenberg Palace from the city center in just 10 minutes by car. The Styria wine region is located to the south. The vineyards in the Leibnitz area are approximately 30 kilometers away. The Red Bull Ring race track is approximately 85 kilometers from the airport. The Slovenian border is approximately 60 kilometers from the airport.

There is one VIP Lounge at Graz Airport. The Graz Airport Lounge is located on the first floor of the terminal. After passing through security, turn right and take the elevator or stairs to the first floor. You can find it immediately by following the lounge signs. Before entering the lounge, you must stop by the information desk next to Check-in Counter 1. Here, you must first obtain a barcoded invitation. Without this invitation, you cannot pass through the lounge’s automatic entry system.
The Graz Airport Lounge is divided into four distinct zones. The Work Zone is designed for business travelers, featuring charging stations and free WiFi. The Communications Zone is designed for passengers who wish to watch TV or make phone calls. The Relaxation Zone features large windows overlooking the runways and the scenery south of Graz. In the Self-Service Refreshment Zone, breakfast items, light snacks, sandwiches, and non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages are served depending on the time of day.
